Class Description:
As a context in which to teach business writing, this section will have a major focus on a "green" application to business: solar housing. Research repeatedly shows that good writing skills are critical in getting hired, keeping your job, and advancing. To help prepare you for writing in business and the professions is the chief objective of this course. In this section of English 306, students apply rhetorical principles to practical writing tasks common in business and the professions, including preparing clear letters, brochures, and writing a persuasive proposal or report. Students will learn to vary their content, emphasis, style, and format to meet different audience needs in oral and written presentations. Attention will be paid to verbal-visual design, and an introduction to desktop publishing will be provided. Instruction occurs through assigned readings, classroom discussions and activities, and individual and group writing assignments.
