Class Description:

This course is foremost a writing course, so expect to write
a lot. We will develop writing through research, which means you will formulate
research questions, locate and analyze traditional and nontraditional sources,
and use your research to write essays that articulate positions on a
compelling social issue of your choice. You investigation and writing on these issues offers
opportunities to become more informed and engaged in the issues you see in your
communities.

The writing you produce for this course is tentatively set
to include a personal essay, a multiple perspectives research essay, and an
advocacy essay. The advocacy essay will be a culmination of your work in the
course.
Additionally, you can expect to compose a project proposal, an annotated
bibliography, and a personal interview transcript as supporting documents for
your essays.
