English 102 emphasizes critical thinking, reading, writing and research.  In this course, we will explore argument through the lens of popular culture.  Students are expected to critically read and assess material and write logical arguments pulled from a variety of mass media sources including national and local newspapers, magazines, the internet, and radio and television broadcasts.  Furthermore, students will craft their writing to fit a number of views including the point of view of a lawyer, psychologist, and literary critic.    Students are expected to produce readable and interesting sentences, paragraphs, and essays that reflect appropriate academic conventions of presentation.  Finally, students are expected to use their knowledge of argument in the production of a final research paper using proper research methods and MLA format.
