Using 5 literary texts, this special topics section will explore key thematic and linguistic trends in gay and lesbian literature as these relate to and reflect larger issues of gays' and lesbians' place in U.S. and British culture. The course will also explore intersections between gay and lesbian identity and gender, race, and nationality. Authors and texts: Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Nella Larsen, Passing, Audre Lorde, Zami: A New Spelling of My Name, Tony Kushner, Angels in America, Jeanette Winterson, Written on the Body.
